painting comissions

My paintings are made with oil paints, on canvas or wood panels. I use quality, archival materials, meaning – they are meant to last hundreds to thousands of years. This is factored into the cost. You are paying for something that is made to withstand time. The larger the painting, the more materials it will take to make the painting; keep this in mind while planning your commission.

Physical paintings will be charged on a case-by-case basis, depending on the wishes and desired specifications of the commissioner.

shipping

Shipping artwork is expensive. I can cut down on costs by packaging them myself and shipping them via USPS, but the bigger and more awkward the package, the spendier it is to ship. At this time, I am only willing to ship within the United States. A shipping fee will be calculated into the overall cost of the commission.

digital commissions

If you’re looking for less expensive options, I can offer both two-color sketches at a flat rate of $25, and digital paintings. Digital paintings will be delivered as image files for yours to do with, including making your own prints. These paintings will omit the cost of materials and shipping. Instead, you’ll be charged a $35 hourly rate depending on the number of subjects you want me to illustrate.

For example, if you want me to illustrate a photo of your three children, you’d be charged $105 (3 subjects x 1 subject per hour x $35 hr), as it most likely will take me three hours to complete the illustration. You’re free to do whatever you want with this image – make custom prints, put it on T-shirts for your pet’s birthday party, tattoo it on your arm, gift it to someone else – it’s yours.

payment contract

Once the details and price are agreed upon, I require %50 upfront. This guarantees a place in my schedule and the purchase of any needed supplies (for physical paintings). Additionally, I’ve had too many instances where a customer tries to withhold payment after receiving a finished product. I cannot get those hours worked back.

Upon completion of the product and final seal of approval from the commissioner, I require the remaining payment before shipping/sending the file.

I accept payment through Paypal or Venmo.

free re-dos

I’m willing to offer up to three free re-dos. If the end product doesn’t live up to your expectation, I will try again three more times for free. I will only send out physical paintings once these three re-dos have been used. I find most issues can be fixed within these three passes. (And you can ask me at any time for an update on your commission! I will show you wherever I’m currently at to make sure we’re on the same page.)

timelines

Digital commissions require no extra time for the gathering of materials or shipping. Expect these commissions to be done in 3-4 weeks.

Physical commissions need to account for the possibility of waiting for materials to be available – I may not have the specific size canvas or panel currently in my possession, or I might need to order more paint – and the time it takes to ship the finished product. Expect these commissions to be done in 2-3 months.

*These estimates do not account for re-dos.

**Keep in mind, I am currently doing commissions while working a full-time job. I hope in the future to move to doing commissions full time, so if you love something I’ve made for you, please tell your friends and loved ones! (It might make wait times quicker.)
